Dancing With the Stars in full ‘Swing’
Rehearsals for Home & Family Society’s third annual Dancing with the Stars style fundraising contest are well under way, and the event is set to be more popular than ever. Every Saturday 28 amateur dancers are learning a professional routine in a bid to fundraise for Home & Family Society and be crowned the Home & Family Dancing with the Stars Champion 2017.
The event, which will take place on the 22nd June, has a number of familiar names vying for the prestigious title, including: James Daniels from The Breeze, Christchurch violinist Yoomia Sim, and City Councillor Glenn Livingstone. There are also representatives from well-known Christchurch organisations such as Cat House Films, X-Change, Christchurch City Council, MUSOC, Sport Canterbury, Harcourts, The Entertainment Book, Somerset Print, Spark and Statistics NZ.
The contestants are being trained by Dancing with the Stars Champions and 3 times former New Zealand Amateur Latin Champions, Vanessa and Scott Cole.
The event has a fundraising target of $50,000 and this year is to be held at the iconic Transitional Cathedral with the space kindly being offered at no profit. The venue will seat 600 and tickets have already sold out within days.
Val Carter, Home and Family’s Executive Director says, “We’re so grateful to receive the commitment of the people of Christchurch, which is integral in making this amazing event happen. We are so appreciative of the sterling fundraising work that our contestants are doing for us. This year’s competition is going to be spectacular; the standard of dance is exceptional and we are very excited to see each performance in the beautiful Cardboard Cathedral.”
