Home & Family invites you to take the Pledge of Kindness for 2018!
We promise it’s fun and doesn’t have to cost a thing!
Of course all charities love donations. But we know that having the money to donate isn’t always easy. We also know that just making a donation is rarely fun, unless you happen to get a kick out of online banking or cheque writing. So because we love our supporters and want them to have a good time, we want to give them the opportunity to ‘be kind in kind’.
What is the pledge of kindness?
Taking the pledge of kindness for 12 months means agreeing to support Home & Family’s fundraising efforts in a way that is:
- unique to you
It’s great for us because it spreads awareness of Home & Family, helps us fundraise and lets us connect more with he people who support us. It’s great for you because you can see how your support is helping, gives you some variety in your working days, offers excuses for get-togethers and let’s face it, it looks good!
So what’s entailed?
Put simply, whatever works for you. Perhaps you would consider one of the following:
- Dancing in our Dancing With the Stars fundraiser
- Modelling at our Fashion show
- Holding a swap shop, quiz or bingo night
- Donating items for an auction, or to our second-hand boutique
- Allowing us to purchase goods and/or services at cost
- Organising hampers and children’s gifts at Christmas
- Having a donations box in your workplace
These are just a few ideas. Get creative! Check out our Kindness Toolkit in the right hand sidebar. It includes resources which are free to download and a list of local businesses and venues who can run fundraisers for you!

How do I take the pledge?
See above! All you need is a pen and paper and your best smile. Then all you have to do is:
- make a sign which reads I’ve taken the #PledgeOfKindness2018 for Home & Family
- Take a photo
- Share your photo far and wide, so everyone knows how kind you are! Make sure you follow us on Facebook and Instagram so you can tag us in your pledge.
Below are some examples of how easy supporting us can be. You could…
Hold a magic squares raffle (cost: $0-$50)
It couldn’t be easier; simply download and print the magic squares grid from the side menu, fill in your details and sell the squares to colleagues/customers. When the grid is full, draw the winner. You can choose to donate an item or service to ‘top up’ the prize money or take the cost (up to $50) out of the takings. At the end, you will be able to donate $350-$400 to Home & Family.
Donate to an auction or raffle (cost: variable)
Home & Family holds online auctions all year. If you are able to donate an item (or service), or offer us one at cost, you will be promoted as our business of the week and listed as a supporter on our website.
We also hold auctions and raffles at our events and you could be one of the businesses who donates a prize. Please complete the form on the right hand side of this page if you think you can help.
Participate in an event (cost: $0-$1000)
Home & Family regularly holds fundraising events – you might want to enter a dancer to represent your organisation in our ‘Dancing with the Stars’ event. We ask that individuals raise sponsorship money themselves, but you might choose to sponsor someone entering from your company.
Alternatively, if you would like to make Home & Family a recipient charity for another event you’re running, please get in touch and we’ll give you everything you need.
Allow us to come into your workplace and sell krama (cost: $0)
Home & Family is partnered with Krama & Co. Put simply, Krama & Co. is a social enterprise which supports women and children in Christchurch and Cambodia, by selling fair-trade fashion items (krama). Perhaps we could come into your office at lunchtime, to speak to people about buying them as gifts, or you would be able to sell a basket on our behalf.
