SPACE in Christchurch
Home and Family and SPACE NZ Trust Partner for Parents
Home and Family is excited to announce the delivery of SPACE Programme sessions for new parents in Christchurch from mid-March. This is an exciting partnership between Home and Family Parenting and SPACE (Supporting Parents Alongside Children’s Education) Programmes. The first SPACE session will begin on 17th March, 2015.
SPACE has been successfully delivered throughout New Zealand. Its success is due to the flexible delivery and sensitivity to varied community needs. The Programme also provides Christchurch parents with a unique opportunity to form a supportive community hub, where they can share their journey of parenting. This can reduce the sense of isolation that parents may face at times.
SPACE facilitators receive training to ensure smooth and effective programme delivery. The Programme consists of two focus areas. The first one explores two themes – ‘The Heart of Parenting’ and ‘The Growing Child’. The second one focuses on play and infants’ opportunities to play alongside their parents.
‘The Heart of Parenting’ and ‘The Growing Child’ aspect of SPACE may include a wide range of discussion topics such as:
- Reflective Parenting
- Establishing Attachment
- The Beauty of the Brain etc.
These topics evolve in response to parents’ experiences, ensuring that the curriculum is relevant and up to date.
