Busk-A-Thon 2015 – All in support of Home & Family

Busk-a-Thon is an exciting community venture, taking over Christchurch on the 17th October for 24 hours! Across multiple venues around the city, performers will be busking in support of local charity Home & Family.

24 hours, 24 venues and hundreds of performers ranging from school groups, to well-known artists, to dance troupes all taking the stage across the various locations. Busk-a-thon is going to be the best show-case of Canterbury talent to hit the streets in 2015!

At each venue, there will the opportunity to donate (both in cash by eftpos) and our Givealittle page is running from now, right through until 10am, Sunday, 18th October. All proceeds from the event will go towards Home & Family’s capital campaign.

Following the devastating Canterbury Earthquakes, Home & Family lost the building that had housed its head office and counselling services. These are currently being run out of two residential flats in Hereford Street, which Home & Family are renting. Home & Family urgently need a new home, a place of their own to operate these aspects of their service from.

In 2014 Home & Family secured the purchase of the convent of The Community of the Sacred Name on the corner of Barbadoes and St Asaph Streets. This building was home to Nurse Maude’s dispensary and the base from which the first District Nursing Office operated. The refurbishment of this amazing building will provide Home & Family with a visible, accessible community centre to base their services from. It will give Home & Family the potential to grow their services and reach more people who have need of them.
